As our Store Manager, you’ll inspire and lead a passionate team, deliver exceptional customer experiences, and keep the heartbeat of our busy kiosk running smoothly.

This gorgeous space has it's own unique identity whilst still offering the full range of Black Star Pastry’s signature cakes, together with specialist products, and first-class coffee from our partner St Ali.

This is a full-time role offering 38 hours per week with a flexible roster, supporting a strong work-life balance. As Store Manager, you’ll lead all areas of store operations — from team performance to creating an outstanding customer experience.

Main Responsibilities 

To achieve all of this, your day will look a little like this:

• Provide ‘hands on’ leadership within the store, overseeing all direct employees ensuring that they are trained in all store processes, standards and expectations.
• Communicate position expectations and monitor employee performance including coaching and counselling employees
• Ensure adherence to systems, policies, procedures, and productivity standards.
• Complete weekly rosters in a fair and consistent manner and within budget requirements.
• Maintain workplace cleanliness and WHS standards, establishing systems to ensure levels are consistent and acceptable, communicating clear expectations to the team.
• Ensuring quality of service by maintaining consistent standards, analysing and resolving quality and customer service problems, identifying trends and recommending system improvements.

About You

• 2-3 years’ leadership experience in hospitality 
• A talent for mentoring others – you love to lead by example
• Passionate about the customer experience and product quality
• Ability to connect with customers and provide an exceptional customer experience in a fast-paced environment
• Problem solving and critical thinking skills
• Demonstrated capability to multi-task – your organizational skills will be a strength
• Positive team player with strong communication skills
• Authentic and down to earth with a genuine love of people
• Confidence in rostering, budgeting, and sales forecasting
• Holds a valid Food Safety Supervisor Certificate (or willing to obtain one)
• Bonus: A love of cake

Black Star Pastry opened its first boutique patisserie in Newtown in 2008 and since then we have grown into an institution with stores across New South Wales.

We are most famous for our Strawberry Watermelon Cake which has become a social media sensation, with the New York Times declaring it “the world’s most instagrammed cake.”
